Episode 66 | Creating Safe Spaces

We talk a lot about change, new habits, new goals, and new identities.

But what if the real reason change doesn’t stick isn’t a lack of discipline, but a lack of safety?

In this episode, Evie and Emily explore the role of safety in the change process. Drawing from nervous system science, art therapy, and lived experience, they unpack why evolution can’t happen in survival mode and how creating internal and external safety allows real transformation to take root.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re trying to move forward but keep snapping back into old patterns, this episode is for you.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why behavior is a byproduct, not the root problem

  • How resistance is often protection, not failure

  • Why change feels threatening in survival mode

  • Why personal evolution requires nervous system capacity

  • How internal and external environments shape change

  • How creative practice builds self-trust and safety

Quick Win:

Imagine or draw a safe space (real or imagined).

Add details:

  • What physical elements are there?

  • Who is present?

  • What textures, lighting, sounds, or rhythms increase your sense of safety?

Then look at your current space and identify:

  • What can be added?

  • What can be removed?

  • What small change would align your environment more closely with your safe space?
