The Everyday Creative
At The Everyday Creative we believe that everyone is creative. Our creative acts often go unacknowledged and dismissed as daily problem-solving, but here they are celebrated. The Everyday Creative has two goals: to help you tap into creativity with actionable steps and advice. And we aim to help you (and ourselves) consume less. We believe that overconsumption affects happiness and the ability to thrive. Creativity, on the other hand, can increase happiness and lead to a more fulfilling life. So join us for biweekly episodes where we tackle a topic relating to creativity and consumption.

If you’re stressed, overwhelmed, or feeling like your life is just a little too loud right now, there’s a good chance your brain has landed on this thought:
“If I could just get my diet together, everything would feel better.”
And honestly? That makes sense.
Food is tangible. It’s something you can control when everything else feels messy.
In this episode, Emily and Evie explore how nutrition can genuinely support a stressed nervous system — and how it can just as easily become another source of pressure.
Because yes, food can help. But it shouldn’t be asked to carry everything.
Episode Highlights:
The difference between allostatic load, distress, and resilience
Why stress often pushes us toward stricter food rules
When dieting increases cognitive load instead of reducing it
Common eating patterns that quietly worsen stress
How to build nutritional resilience instead of food anxiety
Quick Win:
Simplify one thing about your food.

In a world that never stops buzzing, scrolling, or notifying, silence can feel uncomfortable, even threatening.
We say we want clarity. We say we want change. We say we want to “figure things out.”
But we fill every quiet moment and then wonder why nothing feels clear.
In this episode, Evie and Emily explore the role of silence and solitude in the change process — how they support mental health, increase clarity, and create the internal conditions necessary for meaningful transformation.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, reactive, or disconnected from your intuition, this episode offers both a grounded reframe and a simple place to begin.
Episode Highlights:
Why change starts with awareness, not action
How constant stimulation blocks clarity
Why silence can feel uncomfortable at first
The difference between solitude and isolation
How distraction prolongs the change you want
The connection between silence and nervous system regulation
How solitude strengthens discernment in relationships
Why creativity is the container for what surfaces in silence

Take a moment to think about all the content you consume in a day:
Social media feeds. YouTube videos. News cycles. TV shows. Books. Podcasts.
That’s your information diet.
We spend a lot of time thinking about what we eat, how we move, and how we sleep because we understand those shape our bodies.
But your brain doesn’t treat content as neutral.
Everything you consume is shaping you in some way.
In this episode, Emily and Evie explore how content functions as part of your environment and why your brain diet deserves just as much intention as your food diet.
Episode Highlights:
The concept of an “information diet”
What brain nourishment looks like during stress or recovery
The emotional tone of what you read and watch
Why pace (not just content) affects your nervous system
The cultural rise of “brain rot”
Practical ways to build a brain-supporting content mix

We talk a lot about change, new habits, new goals, and new identities.
But what if the real reason change doesn’t stick isn’t a lack of discipline, but a lack of safety?
In this episode, Evie and Emily explore the role of safety in the change process. Drawing from nervous system science, art therapy, and lived experience, they unpack why evolution can’t happen in survival mode and how creating internal and external safety allows real transformation to take root.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re trying to move forward but keep snapping back into old patterns, this episode is for you.
Episode Highlights:
Why behavior is a byproduct, not the root problem
How resistance is often protection, not failure
Why change feels threatening in survival mode
Why personal evolution requires nervous system capacity
How internal and external environments shape change
How creative practice builds self-trust and safety
Quick Win:
Imagine or draw a safe space (real or imagined).
Add details:
What physical elements are there?
Who is present?
What textures, lighting, sounds, or rhythms increase your sense of safety?
Then look at your current space and identify:
What can be added?
What can be removed?
What small change would align your environment more closely with your safe space?

We all know strength training is important.
It supports your bones, metabolism, brain, longevity, and even your confidence. And yet, actually starting can feel weirdly intimidating.
If you haven’t started yet, it doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It doesn’t mean you don’t care about your health. It usually just means you’re missing one foundational layer:
Overcoming resistance.
In this episode, Emily and Evie break down how to move from knowing strength training matters to actually doing it — without overwhelm, burnout, or gym-timidation.
This isn’t a technical “how to lift weights” walkthrough. It’s a mindset + strategy episode designed to help you build a sustainable strength practice.
Episode Highlights:
Why commitment comes before confidence
Why resistance is normal (and what it’s actually telling you)
How to design your environment to reduce friction
How to start strength training without overcomplicating it
A simple beginner progression plan
Common mistakes that derail momentum
And FAQs

Change is one of the most important and most misunderstood parts of being human.
We’re taught how to earn degrees, build careers, and achieve goals… but no one teaches us how to change. And when life forces change upon us, whether through health challenges, loss of freedom, burnout, or simply outgrowing who we used to be, we’re often left overwhelmed and unsure where to begin.
In this episode, Evie and Emily explore why change feels so hard (even when we want it) and introduce a simple but powerful framework to help you build an internal foundation for lasting evolution.
This isn’t about quick fixes or surface-level habits. It’s about real change — the kind that actually sticks.
Episode Highlights:
Why clarity is often the biggest missing piece in change
The myth of overnight transformation
Why changing your external circumstances rarely solves the root issue
How fear, avoidance, and busyness quietly block growth
Why traditional behavior-change tactics (shame, guilt, fear) don’t create lasting results
How to create an internal environment that supports sustainable change
Quick Win:
Start with Commitment.
Ask yourself:
What will be different in my life if I create the change I want?
Why is that important to me?
Then choose one small, simple creative act you can commit to daily — something realistic enough to do even on your hardest days.
Small and consistent beats intense and unsustainable.
